The Reason Rally, the largest gathering of atheists, agnostics, humanists secularists and freethinkers are taking place in Washington, DC this Saturday (June 3) and tomorrow Sunday. The gathering will raise issues regarding the separation of church and state, the role of science in education and public policy, climate change, reproductive and LGBT rights, etc. This exciting two-day event will be addressed by noted scientists, humanists, environmentalists, writers, teachers, and a member of the US House of Representatives and others; featured among them are educator Bill Nye, entertainer Penn Jillette, biologist Richard Dawkins, physicist Lawrence M. Krauss, actor Bill Murray, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii). Noted humanist activist Bonya Ahmed will deliver a special key-note address at a mini convention on Sunday, at 3:15 pm, in the Grand Ball Room of the Washington Court Hotel at the Capitol Hill. Cultural events and meetings of secular organizations and lawmakers are also to take place in the rally.
This year's Reason Rally is taking place among a tumultuous US Presidential election campaign and the organizers want to see that the future US president would choose reason over belief as the guiding principle of the state. The rally hopes to bring the ideas of non-believers to the mainstream US politics and to show that hey yield considerable influence in crafting social and state policies.
